This is for all of you that have met, or heard of Monkey, our cat. The one we refer to as Mouse. For obvious reasons. Today, after a lifelong battle with kidney problems, we decided ... it was time. She had lost so much weight and even through hourly feedings, and a plethora of medications we were not able to keep her healthy. Her kidneys had a mind of their own.
Eve flew to Texas to rescue Monkey a few years ago from an unethical breeder. And made it back to SF the same day! She had the names Zora and Blackie before she was knighted 'Monkey' by us. Her first night with us she christened the fringe on the rug with fresh air sickness vomit as if to say "Am I welcomed to the family?" The next morning Monkey had managed to climb on top of the fridge, suspecting something this sealed and secure must have something yummy inside. When Eve's then roommate, startled by this bizarre looking creature, said "There's a mouse in the house!"
Mouse loved every person, and every pet she ever met. Forgave any creature for any stolen food, undeserved growl, or swiped spot on the couch. Mouse loved getting her ears cleaned, crawling inside your sweater or tshirt, playing hide and seek, but her favorite thing was finding a sunny spot and laying in it (a space heater was a very close second). We gave her her last drive into Pets Unlimited today under a surprising burst of sunshine. I like to think it came out just for her.
Here are some other mouse classics.
